There is no time to rest when it comes to sports betting, and even though the Boston Celtics finished off the Dallas Mavericks in Game 5 last night to win the 2024 NBA Finals, oddsmakers are already setting the lines for favorites to win the 2025 title.
Early odds indicate three clear favorites to bring it home next season, and it’s the three teams most fans would expect given the way this postseason unfolded.
Caesars Sportsbook has the Celtics as the favorites to win next year’s title as well and repeat as champions at +300 odds, followed by the 2023 champion Denver Nuggets at +700 and the new team joining the mix after a ferocious run to the Western Conference Finals, the Minnesota Timberwolves sitting in third at +900.
The Celtics being favored to repeat shouldn’t be a shock to anyone given the state of their roster, with basically every key member of their playoff rotation under contract for next season.
The best players the Celtics are set to lose in free agency are Luke Kornet and Xavier Tillman, while the Nuggets have to figure out Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Reggie Jackson’s free agency situations.
The Timberwolves have Monte Morris and Kyle Anderson hitting free agency, so they also have only a few question marks about following up their impressive 2023-24 campaign.
The Celtics’ odds also reflect what the odds looked like throughout much of this season, in that they include how weak the East is compared to the West.
As good as the Nuggets and Wolves are, the West is deep with other teams who can take them down, while the Celtics will likely only have to worry about one or two other serious contenders.
