The New York Knicks got a true star in Jalen Brunson.
They became the league’s laughing stock when they gave him a big contract, as he had been a backup for most of his career.
It’s safe to say that the Knicks’ bet paid off, as Brunson has been the player they had been craving since Carmelo Anthony left and their first true elite point guard in decades.
But more than that, Brunson is also a great guy, and that’s why his teammates would go to war for him.
At least, that’s how Taj Gibson feels.
In his latest appearance on the Club 520 podcast, the former big man claimed that he wanted his son to be the kind of person Jalen Brunson is, adding that people like him should be celebrated (via New York Basketball).
“I want my son to be like him. For real.”

That’s a big statement, particularly coming from a guy who was in the league for years and had a plethora of teammates in the multiple franchises he played for.
Brunson doesn’t talk a lot, if at all.
He lets his game do the talking, and he’s the kind of player who’ll never make up any excuses or refuse to be held accountable.
The Knicks now need to find him another scorer and put him by his side, whether it’s running it back with Julius Randle or finding someone else.
But for the first time in years, they might actually be close to championship contention.
