The Dallas Mavericks impressed many with their postseason performance but there are still some who feel that things need to change.

Can they really win the Finals with their current lineup or should alterations be made?

Colin Cowherd likes the idea of Luka Doncic playing alongside Kyrie Irving but doesn’t think the partnership works like it’s supposed to.

Instead, he thinks Paul George would perform better with Doncic.

“I think literally a perfect player for Luka is Paul George,” Cowherd said on The Volume, via ClutchPoints.

He said that George’s length, defensive skills, and ability to defer to others would work very well with Doncic.

“I think literally a perfect player for Luka is Paul George…Kyrie’s not the fit.”

There is no doubt that Doncic and Irving can put on an amazing show and are a wonderfully strong offensive pairing.

But are they enough for this Mavericks team or would Doncic find more success playing with someone else?

Irving is smaller and doesn’t play amazing defense at times.

Additionally, he is a ball handler just like Doncic, which can complicate possessions.

George is physically bigger and a reliable defender and he doesn’t need the ball as often.

When looking at Cowherd’s reasoning, it’s hard to argue with him.

However, it’s also very unlikely that the Mavericks will make any changes and part ways with Irving.

After a rocky start, Doncic and Irving have grown closer and have done great things together.

Even though they didn’t win, they reached the Finals just one year after not even making the playoffs, which is very commendable.

So the front office won’t be shaking things up any time soon, despite what Cowherd and some concerned fans think.
