JJ Redick has come a long way over the last few years.

Since retiring from the NBA, he has become a successful podcaster and a courtside commentator.

And on Thursday, it was announced that Redick would be the next head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.

But according to a story from Carmelo Anthony on the latest episode of “7PM in Brooklyn,” Lakers legend Kobe Bryant didn’t care for Redick.

Anthony recalled how Bryant played with Redick during Team USA tryouts years ago and didn’t like how coach Mike Krzyzewski admired and favored the young star.

So Bryant made it his mission to make Redick’s life tough and constantly played hard against him during tryouts.

This story isn’t that surprising considering just how competitive Bryant always was.

He was the sort of player who was looking to be the best and wouldn’t accept anything less than 100% from himself and his teammates.

Seeing how much Krzyzewski liked Redick only fired Bryant up more and gave him reason to play harder against him.

It would be interesting to see what Bryant would say about Redick’s hiring.

In all likelihood, he would probably support it because he cared so much for the Lakers and was also able to separate the game from real life.

Now that Redick has such an esteemed job, he will work hard to get the team back on track, find new success, and enter a new era.

Redick had many successful years in the NBA and will now attempt to start a second career as a talented coach.

He wasn’t able to win over Bryant but he might be able to please fans of the Lakers.
