After another forgettable season in 2023, the Atlanta Falcons headed into the NFL offseason determined to right the ship with some drastic changes to the coaching staff as well as the roster, namely the quarterback position with Desmond Ridder clearly not the answer under center.
It didn’t take long before the Falcons made these drastic moves, parting ways with head coach Arthur Smith and choosing not to bring in Bill Belichick but former Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris as the new leader on the sideline.
Then, the team addressed the quarterback position in NFL free agency by quickly coming to terms with veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins to become the new face of the franchise.
Although Cousins is coming off surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon, the team is confident he still has a lot of football left in him, but then the team drafted Michael Penix Jr. with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, which was a questionable move.
Even though many are still confused as to why the team brought in Penix after signing Cousins to a four-year deal, the team has now agreed to a four-year contract with the rookie quarterback, according to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report.

With Cousins and Penix being on four-year deals at a high number, there will definitely be an interesting dynamic in Atlanta over the next few years, as the pressure will be on the veteran to produce, or he’ll get pulled for the younger signal-caller.
It’ll be interesting to see how things pan out for the Falcons and whether they have created more of a problem rather than a solution at quarterback.
