ESPN is once again trying to fill a hole in their broadcasting team now that JJ Redick is leaving the network to coach the Los Angeles Lakers.

They have a few options when it comes to who could sit courtside during games next season and one of them is Tim Legler.

According to a new report from the New York Post, per NBACentral, the network is “warming up” to the idea of Legler calling more games in 2024–25.

Legler has wanted to do this for years but ESPN has preferred to keep his commentary in-studio.

But things are changing and now he might get a chance to shine more when the new season begins.

A few days ago, “SportsCenter” host Scott Van Pelt praised Legler on air and made it seem as if the former NBA star could be leaving the network.

In reality, he is working out a new deal with ESPN and could actually be taking on more responsibilities soon.

Legler will be calling games during the NBA Summer League and the top brass at ESPN will be paying close attention to how well he does.

He has an infinite amount of basketball knowledge, a great personality, and is pleasant to listen to.

That means that he could be a perfect fit in the 2024–25 NBA season.

The channel has been losing analysts because the league keeps scooping them up for coaching roles.

Before Redick, Doc Rivers left his position at the network to lead the Milwaukee Bucks.

Legler hasn’t mentioned any desire to coach a team so he could give ESPN a sizable and long-term commitment.

Will he be the new face and voice of NBA analysis next year?
