Just like the Boston Celtics, the Miami Heat have been on the edge of winning a championship for years now.
They made it to the NBA Finals in the bubble back in 2020, and were fresh off another failed trip to the ultimate stage last season.
Clearly, Jimmy Butler was the right guy to lead this team.
Unfortunately, all good things come to an end, and we may have reached that point in Butler’s tenure in South Beach.
At least, that’s how Howard Beck of The Ringer feels.
Sharing their NBA offseason preview, Beck claimed that Butler was the star who was most likely to switch teams in the next couple of weeks:
“Jimmy Butler will be traded. Rival executives have been buzzing about it for months, for all the obvious reasons,” Howard said.
He stated that, for obvious reasons, the Heat might be better off moving on from him.
Beck points out the fact that Butler is 35 years old already, not to mention that he’s dealt with plenty of injuries in the past.
Butler could be better off as a second or third option somewhere else, as a core of him and Bam Adebayo won’t be enough to get the deal done.
He also adds that Pat Riley has a history of moving on from stars before they fall off a cliff and that signing Butler to the max contract extension he’s reportedly looking for would leave them no financial flexibility.
Butler embodies what Heat Culture is all about, but at the end of the day, it’s all business.
