For more than a decade, the Golden State Warriors have needed Klay Thompson more than he’s needed them.

They even failed to make the playoffs in the two seasons Thompson was out with injuries, and they won an NBA championship as soon as he was able to get back on the court.

Nonetheless, this is a ruthless business, and it’s never about what you did in the past as much as it is about what you can do in the future.

That’s why Thompson’s days in the Bay area could be nearing an end.

According to a report by Anthony Slater, talks between Thompson and the Warriors are pretty much frozen at this point (via NBA Central).

The Golden State Warriors have yet to offer Klay Thompson a contract, and it’s becoming increasingly likely that he could leave Golden State in free agency, per @anthonyVslater

Slater claims that the Warriors have yet to offer Thompson another contract, so with free agency just ten days away, it’s increasingly likely that he’s going to play somewhere else next season.

The Warriors could’ve gotten a deal done with Thompson as soon as the NBA Finals ended, but that wasn’t the case.

Thompson decided to bet on himself after failing to strike a deal on an extension, but he had arguably the worst season of his career.

Of course, this could just mean that the Warriors are going to allow him to test the market to gather his actual market value before making him an offer, but that’s a risky bet nonetheless.

Thompson is still one of the best shooters in the game and will have interest from many teams around the league.
