At this time last season, Paul George and Draymond Green were talking about how Victor Wembanyama wouldn’t be able to get away with some of the stuff he did in Europe once he got to the NBA.

It didn’t take long before both of them realized just how wrong they were.

Green wound up giving him the nod for Defensive Player of the Year, and George also gave his flowers to the San Antonio Spurs star.

In the latest edition of his podcast, George claimed that the way Wembanyama closed out his rookie season was ‘scary,’ adding that it was just what he needed to ride his momentum into the offseason (via ClutchPoints).

“The way he finished the year. I think it’s scary for the league… Say you had like [Chris Paul] or [Rajon] Rondo… Wemby, go right there. Imma throw this sh*t as high as I can. Go catch it & dunk it.”

George believes that the personnel around Wembanyama isn’t ready, adding that they should try to add a cerebral pass-first point guard who knows the ins and outs of the game and can explain it to him.

The Los Angeles Clippers star claimed that the Spurs might not want Wembanyama to be a prototypical five and endure the physical beating that requires, so he could be more of a dynamic four, meaning they need to get another big as well.

George also predicted that the Spurs wouldn’t blow up their roster this offseason because they don’t want to overshadow Wembanyama’s development and they know he has to go through some growing pains.

Wembanyama is the most exciting prospect in all of major sports right now, and it’ll be very interesting to watch his journey and ascent for years to come.
