Things can change pretty fast in the NBA.
One day, you might be a key piece to an NBA championship team, and the next, you may not even be a part of the rotation.
That seems to be the case with Kevon Looney and the Golden State Warriors.
Looney was one of the team’s defensive anchors during their last championship run, and his hustle on both ends of the glass played a huge part in their success.
Then, he fell from grace in Steve Kerr’s rotation, being there mostly for certain matchups or depth.
Even so, the Warriors are reportedly keen to keep him around.
According to a report by Joaquin Ruiz of NBC Sports Bay Area, the Warriors intend to allow the final year of his contract guarantee:
“They are expected to let the rest of Looney’s $8 million contract guarantee, keeping him in their current plans, though it does remain possible they eventually use his salary to help complete an offseason trade,” insider Anthony Slater said.

However, he doesn’t rule out the possibility of them moving on from him at some point in the offseason.
Looney could fetch some league-wide interest if made available.
He’s embraced some tough defensive assignments throughout the course of his career, and he’s a strong locker-room presence with NBA championship experience.
Still, that’s not the only storyline to follow in the Bay right now.
The Warriors have a tough decision to make regarding Klay Thompson and his future, and that will most likely set the tone for their offseason.
Also, with Chris Paul likely heading out the door, Steve Kerr’s team could look very different by the start of the upcoming campaign.
