The Los Angeles Lakers were once the team to beat in the Western Conference, but that’s no longer the case.

LeBron James is old, Anthony Davis’ character and availability have always been a subject of discussion, and they have an average supporting cast.

Also, with no coach lasting 3 or more seasons there since Phil Jackson left 13 years ago, their coaching position hasn’t particularly become a coveted one.

That’s why they had a tough time finding someone to take the reins of their project, eventually getting JJ Redick.

Considering all of that, sports analyst Craig Carton claimed that they have become a joke of a franchise.

In the latest edition of The Carton Show, he mocked Jeanie Buss and the Lakers for hiring someone whose only coaching experience comes from coaching fourth graders.

Of course, it’s not like Redick is just an average Joe.

He’s been an analyst for his podcast for years now, and he’s also served for ESPN.

He’s a knowledgeable basketball freak who’s obsessed with the game, and he’s been a candidate for either a coaching or assistant coaching position in the league for quite a while now.

He also seems to have the support of the locker room, which is no minor thing, particularly given LeBron’s never-ending history of power struggles with his coaches.

Truth be told, there weren’t that many bonafide or proven options for the Lakers to pursue, and those who may have been in that position didn’t seem to be particularly interested in the job anyway.
