To play in the National Football League is a privilege, especially when the team that you are playing on is ready to contend for a championship.

When you can’t make smart decisions off of the field, that privilege can be taken away in an instant.

This is the case for veteran cornerback Tae Hayes.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Hayes was released by the New York Jets recently after he was arrested in Alabama for marijuana possession.

Ever since going undrafted out of Appalachian State in 2019, Hayes has bounced around on a lot of different teams.

In fact, the Jets were his ninth different NFL team.

He was also a member of the USFL-winning Birmingham Stallions in 2022.

Hayes has played in a total of 14 games across four NFL seasons recording 18 total tackles, two pass deflections, and a fumble recovery.

Now, he will be looking for a new opportunity after he made a poor decision off of the field.

Playing on the Jets was a golden opportunity because of how good they can be.

On paper, Gang Green appears to be a Super Bowl-contending team, especially with a healthy Aaron Rodgers back at quarterback and an elite defense on the other side.

The NFL always stands for “National Football League.”

Sometimes, what might be more fitting is “Not For Long.”

Players who make poor decisions off of the field lose out on making a career in the NFL.

That is why Hayes will now try to find a new home somewhere else.
