The Los Angeles Lakers have been one of the most highly discussed teams during the NBA offseason.
They have made the news for a multitude of reasons, including their recent lack of success in the playoffs, roster decisions, and of course, their head coaching vacancy.
Darvin Ham was fired after another suboptimal performance in the playoffs, leaving a hole in one of the league’s most historic franchises.
It initially seemed like Dan Hurley was going to get the job, but after he turned it down to stay at UConn, the team pivoted, making J.J. Redick their newest coach instead.
Redick was linked to the team through the offseason, and now, he is finally a part of the organization.
One of the reasons he was linked to the team was because of his connection with LeBron James, who he frequently has a podcast with.
While one might assume that James was a confidant to him throughout the coaching cycle, Redick claimed otherwise in a recent press conference shared by Bleacher Report on Twitter.
“LeBron and I didn’t talk about the Lakers job,” Redick said.

Redick insisted that he and James didn’t talk about this job, that he came to this decision on his own.
Whether that is the truth or not remains to be seen, but at this point, it doesn’t necessarily matter.
The Lakers have officially found their newest coach, and Redick has a chance to help turn this team around for the foreseeable future.
