Draft day is finally here, and even though this is looked at as one of the NBA’s weakest draft classes ever, there are always gems to be found and moves to be made.

The Los Angeles Lakers are one team to keep an eye on, as they are reportedly interested in moving up and have two prospects in mind.

Dan Woike of The Los Angeles Times reported that the Lakers could move up to target either Devin Carter or Ja’Kobe Walter, saying “Some rival executives believe the Lakers could be aggressive in moving up in the first round. Two players they like, Providence’s Devin Carter and Baylor’s Ja’Kobe Walter, are expected to be picked ahead of No. 17.”

Carter and Walter are both seen as lottery picks and likely won’t make it to No. 17 where the Lakers are currently slotted.

The only other pick the Lakers have is No. 55, which many expect will be used to select Bronny James.

Carter is a junior and a 6’2″ combo guard out of Providence who averaged 19.7 points and an impressive 8.7 rebounds per game last season while improving to a 37.7 percent three-point shooter on high volume.

Walter is a freshman out of Baylor who averaged 14.5 points and 4.4 rebounds on 37.6 percent shooting, though he also showed promise as an outside shooter at 34.1 percent on 6.3 attempts per game.

Both players’ profiles would appear to make sense alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis, so it makes sense why the team might be interested in moving up.

This draft lacks star talent, so teams are going to have to identify who their guys are and maneuver the board to get them by any means necessary.

This is not a “sit and wait” draft, it’s a “go get him” draft.
