After flaming out in the first round of the NBA playoffs, mainly due to the injury suffered by superstar Jimmy Butler, the Miami Heat headed into this NBA offseason with a lot of work to do if they expect to compete with the NBA champion Boston Celtics next season and beyond.
Although the team did make a solid move on Wednesday by committing to Bam Adebayo on a massive three-year deal ahead of the 2024 NBA Draft, it would be safe to say the team needs some upgrades this summer to bounce back.
Along with trying to figure out what to do with Butler, whether they intend to sign him to an extension or trade him, the Heat seem to know precisely what position they’ll target in the draft over the next two days.
According to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony, the Heat are expected to target a guard in the draft, with a few players that could be potential targets this week via NBA Central.
“Rival teams expect the Heat to take a swing on a promising young guard, with Rob Dillingham, Isaiah Collier, Jared McCain and [Carlton Carrington] being among those mentioned most frequently,” Givony said.

With Pat Riley and company being extremely good at evaluating talent and making good use of rookie players, like Jaime Jaquez Jr., last season, and when Tyler Herro was in his first year with the team, Miami could do some damage this summer.
It’ll be interesting to see who the team brings in through the draft and whether he turns out to be a valuable role player for the Heat moving forward.
