It’s not so usual to see a former Junior College player make it all the way to the NBA.

That’s even more accurate if you talk about Junior College players who spent five years in college.

Dalton Knecht made the most of his extra year of eligibility from the COVID-19 season, transferring from Northern Colorado to Tennessee after two years at Northeastern JC, and he’s now on his way to California to suit up for the Los Angeles Lakers.

When asked about his feelings after the NBA Draft and what it meant to cap off his journey with a selection to the Lakers, the Tennesee product claimed that it was a blessing to see how all the hard work has panned out (via Spectrum SportsNet).

Unsurprisingly, he also claimed that he was looking forward to playing with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, adding that the Lakers would be getting a player who was fun to watch.

Knecht isn’t particularly young in terms of being an NBA first-round pick, as he’s already turned 23 years old.

Nowadays, GMs tend to focus on younger players because of their apparent upside, but that’s not always a good thing.

The Lakers already know what they’re getting with Knecht, who is a player who can score efficiently from all three levels and adapt to different systems and rosters.

Spending five years in college allowed him to work on the foundational aspects of the game.

Now, he’ll have to prove them right when he sets foot on the court.
