After the awful season they just had, many Detroit Pistons fans were hoping the team would be very busy this offseason with trades and acquisitions.
And while they might be, it may not be in the ways that fans wanted.
According to Evan Sidery, the Pistons are “active in the marketplace as other teams look to them as a potential facilitator for unwanted salary.”
He added that “Detroit is willing to cooperate as a salary dumping ground in exchange for future assets” in multi-team deals.

This sounds like the Pistons are going to be part of trades, but they probably won’t be landing All-Star or A-list talent.
Instead, they have their eyes set on winning future assets: players and picks they can use in the years ahead to build a stronger roster.
This is likely disappointing to many Pistons fans who wanted to see their team get a lot better in a short amount of time.
They want Detroit to secure an All-Star or two and give Cade Cunningham more help.
Instead, the Pistons will be a dumping ground for other teams that are spending too much money and want to get rid of contracts.
What does that mean for the years ahead?
There is still a chance the Pistons will be better in the next few seasons.
Even though they will be accepting unwanted salaries, they can also commit their own trades and move players to improve.
Things can’t get much worse than they were last season but the Pistons’ return to greatness will likely be very slow.
