The 2024 NBA Draft has officially concluded.

This draft was filled with several surprise picks, both with players sneaking into the first round and with players who unexpectedly fell into the second round.

From a historical lens, the second round of the draft has produced less elite talent than the first, but there have still been several strong players taken in Round 2.

It will be interesting to monitor this year’s class throughout their careers, and which players from the second round will pan out better than expected.

There are bound to be stars and busts from each round, but who those players will be is truly up in the air.

When thinking about this year’s draft and drafts in the past, Kendrick Perkins compiled a list of his top second-round picks in league history, shared by the NBA on ESPN.

In order from five to one, Perkins ranked Jalen Brunson, Manu Ginobili, Draymond Green, Dennis Rodman, and Nikola Jokic as his top five.

Three of these players are still active, as Brunson, Green, and Jokic are all still playing in the league today.

Some might call it recency bias, but Perkins’ rankings could also be a testament to the level of talent in recent drafts.

More and more international players have decided to come to the NBA, which has resulted in hidden gems in later draft picks.

Jokic was a relatively unknown commodity before coming to the league, but now he’s known as one of the best basketball players on the planet.

Anything can happen in the NBA, especially when surrounded by the right coaches and teammates.
