During the offseason in the NBA, there are usually head-coaching opportunities that are available.

However, those who are in the running for certain jobs may pull out of consideration because it is either not a good fit or they just really like their current job.

According to insider Chris Haynes, New Orleans Pelicans assistant James Borrego has removed himself from consideration for the Detroit Pistons head-coaching job.

Perhaps he prefers his current situation down in the Crescent City.

The 46-year-old has been coaching in the NBA for over two decades now.

He has been with the Spurs, the Hornets, the Magic, and now the Pelicans.

He does have some head-coaching experience that came with the Charlotte Hornets (2018-2022).

The two-time champion took a look at the head coach opening in Detroit and decided things would be better if he stayed put.

Detroit has been a losing franchise for a long time now.

They have made the playoffs just twice in the last 15 seasons.

They have had just one winning record in the last 17 seasons.

Currently, they sit at the bottom of the barrel in the Eastern Conference.

In total, they have won just 31 games combined in the last two years.

The Pelicans on the other hand have made the playoffs in two out of the last three years and have had a winning record in back-to-back seasons.

Plus, they have Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram, two All-Star players.

Borrego must have felt that what he had with the Pelicans was better than what Detroit had to offer.
