Early Saturday morning, it was revealed that D’Angelo Russell was exercising his player option and remaining with the Los Angeles Lakers next season.
This ended weeks of speculation and questions about what is next for Russell and he made it clear he wants to come back and win big.
According to Swish Cultures, per NBACentral, Russell’s top priority is to win a championship.
Is that possible with this current Lakers team?

The Lakers got pushed out of the opening round of the playoffs last season so they will clearly have to be much better in 2024-25 if they wish to make Rusell’s dream come true.
They have a new head coach, JJ Redick, but will that be enough?
Now that Russell has opted into his contract with Los Angeles, many people believe the team might use him as a trade asset and send him away.
He could be traded in the days ahead, which would give the Lakers many more options for signing other stars.
But maybe Redick and the Lakers will choose to keep Russell around.
Perhaps they think he will play better than he did during the postseason and will once again be a red-hot shooter who can run plays and shoot well.
Russell is saying all the right things and showing he wants to win in the new season but he might not have a say in his future.
Now that he’s opted into next season, the Lakers could use Russell as a way to get better.
More news could be coming out about him very soon.
