The Los Angeles Lakers and D’Angelo Russell have always had a complicated relationship.
Ever since he made it there as a rookie, he’s alternated great games with head-scratching ones, but the overall balance has been somewhat positive.
That’s why he’s decided to stay in Los Angeles despite being tangled up in trade rumors for most of his Lakers tenure.
With that in mind, he’s taken $100,000 of his salary to give back to his community.
As reported by Preston Harvey, he’s looking to renovate Algonquin Park, the same park he grew up playing on as a kid in Louisville.

He’s also going to host a basketball camp and a pro showcase in his hometown.
Needless to say, this is a heartwarming move by the Ohio State product, which is why plenty of fans took to Twitter to give him his flowers over this initiative.
No matter on court. You can tell DLO a genuine guy

Russell was one of the best players for the Lakers last season.
It seemed like as soon as he heard that his name was being floated around in trade rumors again, he took a huge leap forward to prove to the Lakers just why they would be better off keeping him instead of moving him to get Dejounte Murray.
The Lakers held onto him, and even though some rumors stated he would pursue free agency and sign a more lucrative deal somewhere else, he paid back that confidence by staying put and running it back with the Purple & Gold in the first year of the JJ Redick era.
