The Los Angeles Lakers have made some big decisions over the course of the past week or so.
First, they hired JJ Redick to be their next coach.
Then, they found a major steal in the first round of the NBA Draft in Dalton Knecht.
Last but not least, they got Bronny James in the second round.
Now, his father, LeBron James, has taken a big step of his own.
As reported by NBA insider Shams Charania, the four-time NBA champion has officially decided to opt out of the final year of his contract, leaving $51.4 million on the table.

Nonetheless, this was always expected, and he’s fully expected to return with a new contract, a more lucrative one.
Despite some passive-aggressive remarks from last season, James was always expected to be back in Los Angeles.
There’s no incentive to leave sunny California, where his family and camp are established.
A player of James’ caliber doesn’t usually play for that many teams, and three franchises might be one too many.
So, worry not, Lakers fans, James most likely isn’t going anywhere, even if that means not winning another ring before walking away from the game.
