The Detroit Pistons made a rather shocking decision in the offseason.

Despite him still having multiple years and north of $60 million left on his contract, they decided to part ways with Monty Williams.

Williams failed to make a good impression in his lone season with the organization, and the Pistons finished the campaign with the worst record in the league.

Now, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reveals that they’ve hired J.B. Bickerstaff to be their next coach.

This is far from a surprise, as it’s what usually happens in the league’s coaching musical chairs game.

Bickerstaff did a solid job with a young Cleveland Cavaliers roster, and he’s coming off back-to-back trips to the playoffs and one trip to the Eastern Conference Finals.

He had the Cavs as a top-four team in the East despite a plethora of injuries to his starters.

However, it seemed like he had already outstayed his welcome in Ohio, so it was time for both parties to go their separate ways.

The Pistons have a young and very talented roster, and they were expected to be at least in the Play-In Tournament picture last season.

Being a solid developmental coach, there will now be high expectations for a franchise that hasn’t been relevant in quite a while now.

And while making the playoffs could be out of reach for them at this moment, they must prove that they can at least compete with other teams.
