This is — almost officially — the end of an era in Golden State Warriors basketball.

For years, people were talking about the end of the dynasty, and while most predicted that Draymond Green would be the first to leave, it seems like Klay Thompson isn’t coming back right now.

As a matter of fact, Tim Kawakami of The Athletic recently revealed that Thompson had reportedly shared his cordial goodbyes with some of the Warriors’ high-ranking officials (via Warriors on NBC Sports):

“The longtime Warriors guard already has shared goodbyes with some high-ranking Warriors officials,” The Athletic’s Tim Kawakami reported Saturday.

Thompson has been with the Warriors since he entered the league.

They found and developed him and helped him become one of the greatest shooters this game has ever seen.

Likewise, as 50% of the Splash Brothers, he helped them reach the NBA Finals six times and win four NBA championships.

Granted, Thompson has lost a step on defense and had some terrible shooting nights.

Still, it felt like the Warriors didn’t value or respect him enough throughout the course of negotiations, which is why he’s going to leave.

Reportedly, it was never about money for Thompson, who talked about embracing a lesser role if that was what it took to retire with the organization he loved.

Unfortunately, these things happen all the time in the league, as this is a business first and foremost.
