The Chicago Bulls have officially entered a long-overdue rebuilding phase.

That means they may no longer have any use for DeMar DeRozan.

Needless to say, the former Toronto Raptors star should have plenty of suitors in free agency.

That includes the Los Angeles Lakers.

According to a report by ESPN’s Brian Windhorst (via Evan Sidery), the Compton native could head back home to Southern California.

DeMar DeRozan is a potential target for the Lakers with their mid-level exception, per @WindhorstESPN (https://t.co/cogsObv8Zd).

DeRozan could join the Lakers with their mid-level exception, fulfilling his lifelong dream of playing for his hometown team.

Notably, DeRozan admitted that he thought he was going to play for the Lakers when he signed with the Bulls, but their trade for Russell Westbrook pretty much killed the deal because of its financial implications.

Needless to say, perhaps he could make more money somewhere else, and the Lakers aren’t exactly championship contenders, either.

Nonetheless, having a chance to play for his hometown team and be the Lakers’ starting shooting guard, just like his idol, Kobe Bryant, could play a big factor in his decision.

Also, it’s not like he hasn’t made more than enough money during his playing days already.

Even so, from a basketball standpoint, he might not be the best fit for them.

As great a scorer as he is, he’s never been a three-point shooter, and the Lakers’ spacing is already suspect as it is.

What seems to be a fact already is that he’s not going to be back with Billy Donovan’s team after three seasons with the organization.
