On Monday, the star trio of Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson, which won four NBA titles for the Golden State Warriors, officially ended.
It appears all the rumors and speculation about Thompson’s future in San Francisco was true all along, as he let it be known he was leaving the Warriors in an effort to sign a lucrative long-term deal in what could be the twilight of his NBA career.
Although the Orlando Magic were thought to be the team that would offer him the money he was looking for, Thompson wanted to play for a legitimate title contender while earning as much money as he could, so the Dallas Mavericks brought him in with a three-year deal.
With Thompson headed to Dallas to play alongside Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, the Warriors must move on and figure out how to fill the void in the Bay Area, and it seems as though they are targeting Lauri Markkanen, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN via Hoop Central.
“A lot of the teams who lost out on Mikal Bridges from Brooklyn have transferred over, trying to see if they can land Lauri Markkanen out of Utah, Golden State is one of those teams,” Wojnarowski said.

Depending on the assets the team would have to give up to make the trade work, the acquisition of Markkanen could be a game-changer for the Warriors and instantly thrust them back into the title-contending conversation in the Western Conference.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Warriors can make this deal work and bounce back after missing the NBA playoffs this past season.
