After being knocked out of the first round of the NBA playoffs by the Denver Nuggets, the Los Angeles Lakers headed into the NBA offseason with many questions surrounding the franchise’s future, namely what superstar LeBron James would do with the ability to become an unrestricted free agent.

With James having the ability to leave the Lakers this summer, the team went all out to appease him, as they replaced the recently fired Darvin Ham with his podcast co-host JJ Redick to be the new head coach and drafted his son Bronny James with their second-round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Although bringing in a first-time head coach with no coaching experience and a player who might not be able to hack it on the NBA level were controversial and questionable moves, it was pretty predictable, as many saw it going that way, including former NBA player Rashad McCants via ClutchPoints.

“JJ [Redick] and LeBron [James] start a podcast. JJ says he wants to be a coach. [He] gets hired by the Lakers… [He] gets to coach LeBron and bring in Bronny,” McCants said.

Even though LeBron James got his wish with the team hiring his close friend Redick and drafting his son, the Lakers are now in a difficult position as the team hasn’t been able to do anything with trades or in NBA free agency to improve the roster, which is concerning for Los Angeles.

Despite being in the running to land Klay Thompson, the Lakers couldn’t compete with the Dallas Mavericks, who are arguably a championship-caliber squad with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving leading the way.
