With the Los Angeles Lakers flaming out quickly in the NBA playoffs, as they ran into the Denver Nuggets for the second straight year in the postseason and didn’t stand a chance, losing in five games, drastic changes were expected heading into the NBA offseason.

The Lakers didn’t take long to make their first move as they parted ways with head coach Darvin Ham after two seasons and eventually hired JJ Redick to be his successor, even though the former player had no coaching experience whatsoever.

Along with hiring Redick as the new leader on the sideline, the Lakers made the predictable move of selecting Bronny James with the No. 55 overall pick in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft.

Unfortunately for Los Angeles, the offseason hasn’t been kind to the storied franchise, as they have done nothing but re-sign guard Max Christie to a four-year contract extension in NBA free agency.

Apparently, with the Lakers brass starting to get increasingly desperate, the team is open to trading veteran guard D’Angelo Russell, who recently opted into the final year of his deal with the team, according to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report via NBA Central.

Russell is one of the star players in the league that has been constantly mentioned in trade rumors from year to year no matter where he’s playing, as he’s struggled to find a long-term home in the league, and it appears the trend continues after two seasons in his return to the team that drafted him.

Only time will tell if the Lakers can get a team that will take on Russell for a year while getting a roster upgrade in return.
