Klay Thompson has made his choice and is now a member of the Dallas Mavericks, but he came close to signing with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Many Lakers fans wanted that to happen, including Thompson’s father, Mychal.

Appearing on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Mychal Thompson said he wasn’t feeling in a “congratulatory mood” because he had hoped his son would have been acquired by the Lakers.

He said he spoke with his Klay and encouraged a move to the Lakers, but ultimately knew it wasn’t his decision to make.

“I’m not feeling too much in a congratulatory mood.”

Thompson’s choice reportedly came down to the Mavericks and Lakers.

Mychal wanted his son to follow in his footsteps.

He played for the Lakers back in the late 1980s and early 90s, where he earned two championships.

He has remained close to the team since then and is a commentator for the Lakers all these years later.

Mychal mentioned just how much the team has done for him and his family and he had hoped that would influence Klay.

In the end, the appeal of playing alongside Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving was just too enticing for Thompson.

If he is looking to win another championship, signing with the Mavericks is a smart call and puts him in a better position to earn another ring.

He disappointed his father but the choice was Klay’s and Klay’s alone.

Now it is time for him to pack his bags, move to Dallas, and start this next chapter of his career.

As for his father, he will be watching from afar and wishing a different decision had been made.
