The Los Angeles Lakers entered the NBA offseason with high aspirations.
They were reportedly going to pursue a third star.
But given the way things have gone thus far, that doesn’t seem likely.
However, that doesn’t mean they can’t still find plenty of value around the league.
According to a report by Jovan Buha of The Athletic (via NBA Central), Rob Pelinka is still actively trying to get some deals done.
The Lakers are discussing trades with the Blazers, Nets and Jazz, per @jovanbuha
“It’s too early to write the Lakers off, of course. There’s always a chance they pull a rabbit out of a hat with a trade or signing. They have been active in recent days, discussing potential deals… pic.twitter.com/z3Gj8hZ3QV

Apparently, he’s been in touch with the Brooklyn Nets, Portland Trail Blazers, and Utah Jazz in regards to a potential transaction.
Needless to say, that report led to some speculation on social media, with the fans wondering who they could pursue.

Lauri Markkanen is believed to be in the trading block, and he’s reportedly a target for both the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs.
They could also look to find a new home for the likes of John Collins or Jordan Clarkson.
The Blazers might want to move Deandre Ayton now that they drafted Donovan Clingan, although Jerami Grant would make significantly more sense for the Lakers.
As for the Nets, Nic Claxton was rumored to be on his way out before he agreed to re-sign with them.
But even if he’s not available, they have the likes of Dennis Schroder, Cam Johnson, and Dorian Finney-Smith as appealing and potential trade candidates.
The Lakers are not a championship contender right now, but they’re not that far off either, and a couple of moves could turn their luck around.
