A couple of seasons ago, it looked like the Chicago Bulls were emerging as contenders, but they quickly fell from grace, and they have missed the playoffs in each of the last two years.

A big reason for their disintegration has been the meniscus injury guard Lonzo Ball suffered midway through the 2021-22 campaign that has prevented him from playing ever since.

Ball has picked up his player option for the 2024-25 season, and he’s apparently working to attempt a return soon, as he was seen working on his basketball skills in the gym, per NBACentral.

Ball was the No. 2 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, and he entered the league amidst massive hype, most of which was created by his father LaVar.

While he became a very useful player, he never quite lived up to the hype that projected him as a franchise player and perhaps a future Hall of Famer.

His numerous injuries have also complicated matters, and since going pro, he has appeared in over 55 games in a season just once.

It seems odd to see a player miss more than a few months due to a meniscus injury, but that is the situation the younger Ball has been dealing with.

The Bulls could look very different this coming season — veteran star DeMar DeRozan is a free agent and won’t return, Alex Caruso has been traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder and they’re reportedly looking to trade both Ball and Zach LaVine.

LaVine has seen his name come up quite often in trade rumors for at least the past year.
