The Los Angeles Lakers are working around the clock and calling pretty much everybody around the league to try and get better.
They know they can’t keep up with the Denver Nuggets as currently constructed, and things might not be that different against other contending teams in the Western Conference.
Not only have they had trouble finding assistant coaches to join JJ Redick’s staff, but they’ve also swung and missed trying to get multiple players in free agency.
That leaves them no choice but to try and find something in the trade market.
With that in mind, they’ve held talks with the Portland Trail Blazers about Jerami Grant, the Brooklyn Nets about Cameron Johnson and Dorian Finney-Smith, the Toronto Raptors about Bruce Brown, and the Washington Wizards about Kyle Kuzma, according to a report by Anthony Irwin (via NBA Central).

Needless to say, while this makes sense, the fact that they targeted a player they traded a couple of years ago raised plenty of mockery on social media.

Truth be told, Kuzma is once again a tailor-made fit for the Lakers.
While his numbers have been better than ever in the nation’s capital, he hasn’t played winning or meaningful basketball since he left Southern California.
And while he’s not a star by any means and will make some questionable decisions every now and then, he’s already proven that he can play alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis, stretch the floor with his shooting, and even be a factor on defense when he’s locked in.
