On Friday, the Orlando Magic sent shockwaves through the NBA as they agreed to a lucrative long-term contract extension with Franz Wagner, which has turned the attention to other notable players around the league who could sign a similar extension in the near future.

The Golden State Warriors could be one of those teams that have to make a decision on one of their players who could demand that amount of money when the time comes, as Jonathan Kuminga is in line to get a lucrative extension himself.

Much like Wagner, Kuminga is a good player with talent and a potentially promising future, but it is questionable at best whether he’s worth an extension north of $200 million.

According to Evan Giddings of 97.5 The Game, Kuminga considers himself a player worth at least that much.

“I think Jonathan Kuminga now sees himself as a $200 million player,” Giddings said.

How do you think Franz Wagner’s rookie max extension impacts Kuminga’s future?

Kuminga is coming off a career season with the Warriors, making a drastic jump from the 2022-23 campaign to 2023-24, averaging 16.1 points per game as opposed to 9.9 points per game the previous season.

It’ll be interesting to see what the Warriors decide to do when the time comes to discuss a contract extension, especially given everything they are trying to do to replace four-time NBA champion Klay Thompson and get back into title contention in the Western Conference.

All the talk in the Bay Area right now is about the Warriors going all-in to acquire Lauri Markkanen in a trade with the Utah Jazz, which would certainly impact their long-term plans.
