The Los Angeles Lakers have been the center of attention once again during this NBA offseason, with the team making a lot of noise for all the wrong reasons due to the questionable moves they’ve made and not made so far this summer.
As if hiring a new head coach with no coaching experience whatsoever wasn’t controversial enough, especially with JJ Redick being a podcast co-host with superstar LeBron James, the Lakers went on to select Bronny James with their second-round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, which seemed to signal the team’s direction moving forward.
Then, NBA free agency began, with the big news being that LeBron James might be willing to take a discount in his new contract so the Lakers would have some cap space to bring in another star or notable player.
That didn’t work, as James got a two-year max contract and the team has only retained its own players at this point.
This offseason can be seen as a major disappointment for the Lakers, and now the heat is on, with Redick the one with the most pressure to succeed next season, said Joy Taylor of FOX Sports via “Speak” on FS1.
“JJ Redick,” Taylor said. “Not Jeanie Buss. She owns the team, so she’s not going anywhere. Rob Pelinka gets mentioned once every six months on this show, so he’s not going anywhere. LeBron is not going anywhere. He just signed his contract, and Bronny just got drafted.”

Taylor is right on the money with her take, as Redick is the only one who is expendable moving forward and can easily be dismissed while labeled the fall guy if things go wrong during the 2024-25 NBA season.
Despite giving Redick a four-year deal, head coaches haven’t lasted longer than three years in Los Angeles since legend Phil Jackson left the team, which is a pretty telling note, especially with Frank Vogel winning a title in 2020 and getting dismissed not long after that.
