The New Orleans Pelicans finally got their point guard.
They had struggled at the position since Lonzo Ball left, which is why they didn’t hesitate to pull the trigger and go after Dejounte Murray as soon as he became available.
Everybody wants to make things work in the Big Easy, and that means making the new star of the team feel comfortable.
That’s why Herb Jones decided to take one for the team and gave Murray his No. 5 jersey.
According to a report by Etienne Catalan, Jones will now wear the No. 2 jersey to allow Murray to wear the same number he’s used throughout the course of his NBA career.

Murray has donned the No. 5 jersey since his days in college.
The former San Antonio Spurs and Atlanta Hawks star should make an immediate impact on Willie Green’s team.
His presence there will allow CJ McCollum to shift back to his natural position as an off-ball, scoring guard as opposed to pulling the strings of the offense.
Also, while his defense wasn’t as good in Atlanta as it used to be during his days playing for Gregg Popovich, he clearly has the instincts, physical traits, and defensive expertise to become a factor on that end of the floor as well.
The Pelicans aren’t done making moves.
They’re reportedly looking to find a trade suitor for Brandon Ingram as well, and they need to make up for the Jonas Valanciunas loss.
But judging by what we’ve seen from this team, adding Murray might be just what they needed.
