The end of Klay Thompson’s days with the Golden State Warriors is finally official.
Nonetheless, that isn’t the only thing that has changed.
With Kyrie Irving wearing No. 11 in Dallas, Klay Thompson will have to switch numbers for the first time in his pro career.
As pointed out by NBA insider Marc Stein on Twitter, Thompson will now wear No. 31.

Thompson wore No. 1 in high school in high school and college before switching to No. 11 with the Warriors.
He couldn’t go back to No. 1 because Jaden Hardy currently wears it.
Also, perhaps he just wanted this to be a fresh start for him from every standpoint, including his jersey number.
It’s going to be very strange to watch Thompson play for a different team after spending 13 seasons in the Bay area.
Hopefully, this will be another successful stint for him, and it won’t turn out to be like those bizarre photos of Hakeem Olajuwon wearing a Toronto Raptors jersey or Patrick Ewing playing for the Seattle Supersonics or Orlando Magic.
Those just seem odd or like a bad Photoshop edit.
