Paul George is one of the best players in the NBA, and it’s been that way for more than a decade now.
He plays hard on both ends of the floor, and while he’s struggled with some injuries, he’s been significantly more durable than Kawhi Leonard.
That’s why he thought it was only right that, if the Los Angeles Clippers valued them both the same as they claimed, they took a similar approach to his contract.
That wasn’t the case, and George wound up leaving to join the Philadelphia 76ers.
In the latest edition of his Podcast P show, the two-way star revealed how things went down between him and the Clippers (via NBA Central)
Paul George details his contract negotiations with the Clippers:
• LA’s first offer was 2 year / $60M
• He asked for the same contract as Kawhi during the season
• Asked for 3 year / $150M with a NTC after the season
• Final ask: 4 years/$220Mpic.twitter.com/JqcSAkDxqX

He revealed that the Clippers initially offered him 2 years at $60 million total, which was far below his market value.
They were slightly improving their offers, but they were still far from what he was asking for.
Then, when Leonard got 3 years at $153 million, he agreed to settle for less if that meant staying there.
He wanted the Clippers to include a no-trade clause in his new contract, as he wanted to have some sort of guarantee or stability in the final stage of his career, but the Clippers were unwilling to do so.
Then, George asked them to give him 4 years and $220 million if they didn’t want to include a no-trade clause, and that’s when the Clippers showed him the door.
George admitted that he had nothing but love for the organization and its decision-makers, but he felt like it didn’t make sense for him to come back after those negotiations, so as much as he loved Los Angeles and being home, he had to do what was best for him.
Eventually, he got 4 years and $211 million in Philadelphia, so it seems like he made the right call.
