Bryce Young entered the NFL in 2023 with all the fanfare of being the No. 1 overall draft choice by the Carolina Panthers and gave fans reason to hope that he would be the franchise’s savior.
But a miserable 0-6 start led to a 2-15 finish, a far cry from the promised land many envisioned.
However, the stark reality in the current NFL is that quarterbacks simply do not get the time to develop that they once did, and Young was quickly thrown into the fire.
One of the greatest all-time Panthers, five-time All-Pro Luke Kuechly, believes the tremendous upside with which Young entered the league is still there.
With a few offensive changes that would tailor the attack more to his talents, the ex-Panther is confident that Young will thrive.
Kuechly told the “Up & Adams” show that he would like to see the Panthers stretch the field more in Young’s second season.

The former linebacker explained there are multiple benefits for Young and the offense as a whole to getting the football down the field.
For example, going vertical in the passing game creates space and renders the defense incapable of putting eight in the box to stack up against the run and short passes.
Kuechly added, “With the threat of the downfield pass and the ability of guys to go vertical,” this creates a void—especially in zone defenses—that will make life much easier for a developing young quarterback.
It would also open up running lanes, another excellent benefit for Young’s growth with Carolina.
