Every now and then, we see a new star take the torch right from an NBA legend in real time.
Not many young players are talented, confident, and developed enough to do so, but those who are don’t need a lot of time before showing the world that they’re ready to take over.
Notably, that was the case with Anthony Edwards last season.
Edwards took it upon himself to challenge Kevin Durant, his favorite player, and the Minnesota Timberwolves sent the Phoenix Suns back home in just four games.
The former No. 1 pick went viral for talking smack to Durant, who couldn’t do anything but laugh it off and tip his hat to him.
With that in mind, Edwards told Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports that he realized Durant was actually surprised to see him play that way, which is something he didn’t understand because he’s always been that kind of player.
Anthony Edwards said KD looked surprised after he made plays in the TWolves’ first-round series vs. the Suns.

Of course, this is classic Anthony Edwards right here.
Not even being sent home in the Western Conference Finals and having a bad series was enough to hamper his confidence, and he’s going to talk that talk every single time he has the chance.
Edwards has an opportunity to become the new face of the league, and he’s one of the most — if not the most — entertaining players to watch right now.
