Expectations are never high for second-round picks, and just a handful of them have gone on to become actual NBA stars.

The second round features mostly role players, and — obviously — the later a player is picked, the less likely it is that he’s going to turn out to be great.

That’s no different for LeBron James’ son.

Even though Bronny James got a guaranteed contract, which was significantly more lucrative and had better terms than the average No. 55 pick, he’s still the No. 55 pick.

That’s why NBA analyst Seth Greenberg doesn’t read anything into his two performances in the Summer League.

Talking on ESPN’s Get Up, Greenberg argued that Bronny was a great kid and this was a great story and all, but there was absolutely no reason to expect anything different from him because he’s this player.

“He’s not Ken Griffey Jr. He’s the 55th pick in the draft. … Great kid. Will he end up an NBA player? Who knows.”

Greenberg says that while he might end up being an NBA player at some point, he’s likely going to spend most of his time in the G-League, so people should stop evaluating him as a lottery pick or if he was Ken Griffey Jr., which he clearly isn’t.

That’s right on point.

He might be LeBron James’ son at all, but that only got him into the league.

He took a spot that may have gone to a player who deserved it more — even some of his teammates had better numbers in college — and he got a better contract than the average second-rounder.

But that doesn’t mean he’s going to be a star, and that’s perfectly fine; he doesn’t have to be one.
