The Los Angeles Lakers have been one of the most discussed teams in the NBA during the offseason.

Not only did they lose sooner than expected in the playoffs, but the Lakers have made significant changes to their organization as well.

They fired Darvin Ham, replacing him with J.J. Redick to lead the team moving forward.

The Lakers also selected two notable players in this year’s draft, Dalton Knecht and Bronny James.

While these two players could do a lot of damage together, especially when sharing a court with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, there is always room for growth on the roster.

There have been rumors that the Lakers have shown interest in some key veterans, including Gary Trent Jr., but it looks like, at least in Trent’s case, they are not moving forward.

According to Marc Stein via NBA Central, “One source close to the process cautioned this week that the Lakers, until they can move further away from the second luxury tax apron, can’t even make a run at Trent… No matter how available he appears to be.”

Like many teams in the league, the Lakers find themselves in a difficult position with the luxury tax.

They don’t want to dip into it much if they can avoid it, and with players like James and Davis on the roster, they don’t want to put more of their eggs into other baskets.

The Lakers will likely have to sign a few more players during the offseason, but they will have to get crafty with the deals they make.
