The NBA’s Summer League is officially off and running.
Summer League provides an opportunity for teams to see how their recent draft picks fair in the NBA, and how their playstyle meshes with other NBA players.
A player can do well in the Summer League and not turn out great in the NBA’s regular season, but in recent years, success in this league has mostly translated.
With this in mind, the Houston Rockets might have a new player that could help turn the franchise.
Reed Sheppard has played exceptionally well in his first two Summer League games, combining for 45 points in those games, as the NBA on ESPN pointed out.
They also highlighted a tweet from Trae Young, who commented on Shappard’s game, calling it “nice,” a great compliment from a player of Young’s caliber.

The Rockets have struggled to get anything going over the past few years.
The departure of James Harden was difficult for them to handle, especially since he was a cornerstone of the team for many years.
With a player like Sheppard, however, they might be able to build around him and regrow this team into a regular playoff contender.
Due to their lack of success in recent seasons, the Rockets have gotten an opportunity to draft early, which has allowed them to select players like Sheppard, Amen Thompson, and Jabari Smith Jr.
All of these players represent a new age of Houston Rockets basketball, a representation of the team’s future.
