The Denver Nuggets and Jamal Murray haven’t reached an agreement on a new contract extension just yet.
Some people are worried about this, as there should be no reason for any sort of delay in this situation.
Murray has been there for his entire career and there have never been reports about a desire to leave, so why not get this out of the way?
However, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic, there’s nothing odd going on here.
Talking on SiriusXM NBA Radio, the renowned insider claimed that he actually spoke to Jamal Murray.
“I spoke to Jamal Murray last week…He’s very well aware they want to keep him long-term, and he told me he wants to be there”@ShamsCharania says a Jamal Murray extension should come right after the Olympics as he joins @WorldWideWob, @Darthamin, and Ryan McDonough. pic.twitter.com/RVOmCKnaVB

There are reportedly no ill intentions or grudges coming from any side, and they’re just waiting until after the Olympics to get a deal done.
Murray is eligible to sign a four-year supermax extension worth $208 million, and Charania claimed that both parties fully expect that deal to be on the table.
Then again, basketball is a physical sport, and Murray has had some issues with injuries in the past, so perhaps, waiting until after the Olympics might not be in his best interest.
Murray has been instrumental to the Nuggets’ success, and they would’ve never won an NBA championship without his contributions.
He’s the perfect teammate for Nikola Jokic and one of the best postseason performers in the game, and the Nuggets have already lost two contributors to their championship team.
Still, this is a business at the end of the day, and the franchise will always look to do what makes the most financial sense for them.
