Penny Hardaway’s career is one of the greatest what-ifs in NBA history.
He was incredibly talented and one of the most entertaining and electrifying players to watch.
Unfortunately, injuries, and the fact that he didn’t get to play alongside Shaquille O’Neal for longer prevented him from reaching his peak.
He’s still a cultural icon and one of the most influential players we’ve ever seen, and he’s now also giving back to the game as a coach.
Hardaway has found quite the success as a coach.
That’s why, in his latest appearance on The Big Podcast with Shaq, someone asked him when he knew that he would be a great coach.

Hardaway talked about how he had a great feel for building relationships, adding that the Xs and Os part of the game came naturally for him as a former basketball player.
Shaq, however, wasn’t having any of that.
He called him out for giving ‘a corporate answer,’ adding that he always knew Hardaway would be a great coach because he always came out of the huddle with a play of his own, snubbing his coach’s directions and doing what he thought was best for the team.
Hardaway, like a true floor general, got the players to run his play, not the one the coach had drawn up, and more often than not, it worked.
