The Dallas Cowboys of the early 1990s were a Super Bowl machine, taking home three Lombardi Trophies and establishing themselves as one of the NFL’s greatest teams.
Now, for nearly three decades, America’s Team has attempted to climb back to that lofty perch.
However, despite massive infrastructure investments, an enviably talented lineup and the stewardship of owner Jerry Jones, the franchise cannot reach the lofty heights it once enjoyed.
There are many who point fingers at what they believe is the cause for Dallas’ seemingly annual collapse come playoff time, and one NFL observer believes he knows the answer.
Commentator Colin Cowherd told Julian Edelman that the Cowboys need major changes to reach the promised land.

“I think they are a flawed football operation. Too beholden to their own picks, too insular, not enough exterior voices, not willing to hire a coach that pushes back on Jerry.”
Indeed, since the days of the uber-successful Jimmy Johnson roaming the sidelines, Jones has cherry-picked coaches who many believe function as little more than “yes men.”
Cowherd compared the Cowboys to the Los Angeles Lakers in that they tend to hire their former players and rely on voices from within the building.
This creates an echo chamber that lacks new ideas and new thinking drawn from other quality sources.
Instead, Cowherd maintained that every organization needs a fresh perspective to come in and rattle cages from time to time.
In his mind, the Cowboys are a stagnant franchise that does not look outside its own to shine a critical light on the organization.
