It takes a lot to be a General Manager in the National Football League.
No one has a perfect track record of moves, and chances are you’re going to be wrong as often are you’re right.
Still, team owners need to let their decision-makers do their jobs.
Otherwise, there would be no point in having them in the first place.
That’s why former NFL player Ross Tucker gave New York Giants owner John Mara a lot of credit for the way he’s dealt with Joe Schoen.

In the latest edition of his podcast, he stated that there were a number of team owners who wouldn’t have allowed him to let Saquon Barkley go because he was a fan favorite and sold jerseys, yet he still let it happen.
Tucker stated that most owners often interfere with their GMs instead of letting them make the moves they want.
Whether they’re right or wrong remains to be seen, but if you’re hiring them, you should trust their judgment and character.
Only time will tell if Schoen made the right decision.
That doesn’t seem to be the case at first glance, but we’ve seen this kind of move backfire over and over, so Howie Roseman might get the blame for spending that much money on Barkley at some point down the line.
Whatever the case, Schoen was just doing the job he was hired to do, and perhaps other owners should take a page from John Mara’s book in that regard.
