Team USA is now just days away from participating in the Paris Olympics but they are still figuring the starting five.
Right now, Anthony Davis and Joel Embiid are in contention for the fifth and final starting position on the team.
Philadelphia 76ers fans feel that Embiid is the right choice but Colin Cowherd isn’t so sure.
Speaking on his show, Cowherd said that while Embiid “forces you” to play his game, he doesn’t deliver a “payoff” and isn’t as consequential or complementary as Davis.
For that reason and a few others, Cowherd thinks that Davis should be the starter in Paris.

“He forces you to play his game, but I don’t get the payoff… Yes, he’s productive. So is Zach LaVine and the Bulls can’t give him away.” pic.twitter.com/ivUCl2zKia

Both Davis and Embiid have gotten a decent amount of time during Team USA exhibition games, but it’s been Davis who has produced better results.
Embiid fouled out of his first game and has had some trouble on both offense and defense.
It’s not entirely clear why Embiid isn’t playing like an MVP.
Maybe it’s because he is still coming off an injury or perhaps he had too much time off between the end of the season and the start of practices for the Olympics.
Regardless, he has some fans concerned and looks out of sync and sometimes out of shape.
There is no doubt that Embiid is a supremely talented NBA star but Cowherd doesn’t buy into all the hype around him.
He is particularly concerned about how he doesn’t deliver during the postseason.
Competition in the Olympics will be tough and Team USA needs all players to be working well individually and collectively.
Cowherd thinks that Embiid might not be up to the demands of winning a gold medal.
