The San Francisco 49ers and star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk have hit a rough patch in their relationship.
Aiyuk recently requested a trade from the team after failing to agree on a new contract extension with them.
While the 49ers may have no intention of trading Aiyuk as of now, insider Josina Anderson recently reported that one AFC East team has shown interest in such a deal.
“I’m told within the last couple of weeks the [New England] Patriots reached out to the 49ers inquiring about WR Brandon Aiyuk again and were told the talented wide receiver was not being traded at this time,” Anderson posted on social media.

If the 49ers were interested in trading Aiyuk, which they seemingly are not, a team like the Patriots seems like a good partner.
New England is out of both San Francisco’s division and conference, so it wouldn’t need to worry about facing Aiyuk as often.
With the Patriots also expected to struggle to get wins, they are likely going to have a lot of high draft picks that are attractive for Niners general manager John Lynch.
But again, San Francisco is not interested in trading away their leading wide receiver because the organization believes it can still get something done.
With the 49ers having lost the Super Bowl twice in the past five seasons, they have been so close to winning the whole thing.
Parting with Aiyuk could be a tough pill to swallow, which is why the 49ers are doing everything they can to keep him on the team.
