Heading into the 2024 NBA Draft, the consensus was that Bronny James would get picked in the second round by the Los Angeles Lakers, who seemed intent on taking him at No. 55 overall, even though they had already received a lot of criticism for hiring JJ Redick as their new head coach.

Despite all the negative attention the team has received during this NBA offseason, the Lakers still selected LeBron James’ son with their second-round draft pick.

Along with many believing that Bronny James might not be ready for the NBA, the rookie guard hasn’t played well during his first few games in a Lakers uniform at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.

Although the 19-year-old is coming off his best game thus far, finishing with 12 points in a win against the Atlanta Hawks, former NBA general manager Ryan McDonough believes this summer won’t define Bronny James, but he’s got a lot of work to do, via SiriusXM NBA Radio.

“We’ve seen other players really struggle…in Summer League and then go on to have very productive NBA careers,” McDonough said.

Despite so much attention on a second-round draft pick, Bronny James is literally starting from the bottom and needs to work his way up in order to prove himself and show that the Lakers didn’t draft him only to satisfy his superstar father.

Only time will tell what will happen with the Bronny James experience, but so far, it isn’t looking great for the Lakers, who may have to wait for some time before they get a solid return on their investment.
