When an NFL team drafts a quarterback in the first round, they are hedging their bets that the young man will become the franchise’s leader and a player to build around.
In the case of the Indianapolis Colts, those plans were put on hold last fall when rookie Anthony Richardson started only four games before suffering a season-ending injury.
But great news came recently on their young leader’s status.
James Boyd of The Athletic asked Richardson about the shoulder injury that cut his rookie NFL season painfully short, and the response had Colts Nation buzzing.
Richardson smiled as he predicted, “You’ll see next week once I’m slinging that thang again, so just stay tuned.”
Team owner Jim Irsay responded to the posting on the health of his quarterback with “Awesome.”

It was Week 5 and the Colts were on their way to a key win over the Tennessee Titans when their future was stymied.
Richardson suffered the injury to the AC joint in his right shoulder, also his throwing shoulder, on a running play and was subsequently placed on injured reserve.
The location of the injury is cause for concern, but the second-year quarterback out of Florida appeared confident that he is fully recovered and there are better days ahead.
His Colts hardly folded the tents and came within an eyelash of making the postseason even with him recovering from surgery.
If Richardson is truly healthy, it will be quite interesting to see how the talented young quarterback develops over the course of a full season.
There is not a juggernaut in the AFC South, and the team with the best quarterback play is likely to win the division.
